Joel is the Lead Pastor at West Valley. He and wife Rene, planted West Valley 23 years ago in the Hillsboro area. Joel is a creative entrepreneurial type who always has a project going. He thrives on being outdoors, and spending time with his family.
Why am I a Pastor?
"It may seem like the expected answer, but it is the one that still overwhelms me – The creator of the universe cared enough for the creation that rejected Him that He made Himself in the image of His creation. He walked our sod, felt our pain, knew disappointment, experienced rejection and still loved enough to endure the cross. All of this so I could know life as I was created to know it! My only response could be to use how I was made, who I am, and what I can do to let Him be known to others. I believe I am best able to utilize all that I am at West Valley and that is why I do what I do."
Joel's current favorite verse(s) are Colossians 1-15-23.

Rene Reed Mason
Rene has been co-pastoring West Valley with Joel since the beginning and loves working in the church with her husband and best friend. Much of her focus is in the area of West Valley’s Family ministry, striving to create a strategic partnership between the church and the family.
She loves to create, She loves her family (Joel, Alex-22, and Nate-18), but you may also find her using her skills as a Dyslexic Reading specialist to help students find success.
After 23 years at West Valley Rene still has a great passion for both the people and the ministry here-
"What excites me about West Valley is that this is a place where we are committed to and passionate about people, both men and women, serving the Lord together in the way that God has gifted each as individuals. Gender serves only to enhance and not define what we do here. I believe that's critical to freeing us up to be the church He wants us to be in our community. That's exciting."
Her favorite scripture is Galatians 3:28
"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
Why, because of the profound freedom that Jesus' redemption offers her. For that she is grateful.
