Am I on the Right Path?
Joel Mason   -

This message focuses on Matthew 7, which is the conclusion of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Jesus’ teachings in the Sermon on the Mount challenged the cultural norms of the time, particularly the Mosaic Law, by emphasizing internal transformation over external adherence to rules. Jesus teaches that acts of piety, such as prayer, fasting, and giving, should be done in a way that honors God rather than drawing attention to oneself. This principle extends to trusting God for provision and not being consumed by worry about material needs. Living in the Kingdom of God involves a radical dependence on God, transforming every aspect of one’s life and interactions with others.

One practical application is avoiding judgment of others. Jesus warns against the hypocrisy of judging others while ignoring one’s own faults, using the vivid imagery of a plank in one’s eye obstructing the view of a speck in another’s eye. Jesus’ call not to judge is not about ignoring sin but about maintaining humility and recognizing one’s own need for grace.

This humility should guide interactions with others, avoiding the self-righteousness that characterized the Pharisees. Instead, believers are encouraged to seek God’s righteousness continually, asking, seeking, and knocking persistently in their pursuit of God. This relentless pursuit of God transforms believers and aligns their lives with His will. As believers seek first the Kingdom and God’s righteousness, they are assured that God will provide for their needs and guide them on the path to eternal life.
