Mercy over Sacrifice
Joel Mason   -

This week we explore Matthew 12, where Jesus challenges the Pharisees’ legalistic view of Sabbath observance. Jesus emphasizes mercy over rigid adherence to the law, pointing out that the Sabbath was made for humanity’s benefit, not as a burden. He asserts his authority as Lord of the Sabbath, demonstrating God’s desire for compassion and mercy rather than strict rituals.

Jesus heals a man’s withered hand on the Sabbath, further illustrating his compassionate nature and challenging the Pharisees’ legalism. The Pharisees are angered by this challenge to their authority and begin to plot against him. This passage underscores Jesus’ mission to bring mercy and restoration to all, fulfilling the prophecy from Isaiah that the nations would put their hope in him.
